It’s Gaby Time!

Hot off the presses this morning……

The Blue Jays have promoted C Gaby Moreno from Extended to Lansing.

The athletic Moreno is one of the most exciting under-the-radar prospects in the system.

After laying waste to GCL in his first taste of stateside play last year (.413/.455/.562 in 23 games), the 2016 IFA from Venezuela was promoted to Bluefield in mid-season.

Moreno displayed cat-like reflexes and leadership behind the plate at spring training this year, and Blue Jays Director of Player Personnel Gil Kim had mentioned Moreno as a player to watch just before spring training started.

To make room on Lansing’s roster, OF Dom Abbadessa has been sent to Extended.  In addition, with SS Jordan Groshans going back on the IL after being scratched to a game earlier this week, Luis De Los Santos moves from Dunedin to replace him.

The move gives Lansing three Catchers on the roster.  Since the promotion of Alejandro Kirk, Hagen Danner and Ryan Gold shared the backstop duties.  The presence of Moreno allows Gold to spell Jake Brodt at 1B, and allows Manager Dallas McPherson to keep Gold (the sole LHH on the Lugnuts’ roster) in the lineup as a DH.
