As of now, my board has six-newcomers to the top fifity. Those players being High schoolers – Alex Freeland, Drew Bowser, Daniel Susac, and Victor Mederos. The other two are college players – Chris McMahon, and Jordan Westburg. Here’s a few notes on the six of them:
Alex Freeland is a switch hitting middle infielder who hits better from the right side. His hands work really well, but he has an awkward stride that messes up his swing. He has some serious power and a pretty swing. Defensively, he has a long transfer at short, and probably won’t stick there – meaning he’ll more than likely move to third.
Drew Bowser was in my June top-fifty and dropped in last month’s board – but now he’s back and it’s because of his smooth and quick swing with a line-drive plane. He projects as a corner infielder because of his frame but as of now is playing short in prep ball.
Victor Mederos is a 93 to 96 righty with a two-pitch mix, he lacks any dazzle in his repertoire. But his arm is fluent, his Curveball has 11-5 action and is solid with some depth. He’s a big-bodied Miami kid who really plays the part of a soon-to-be MLB player.
Daniel Susac is a throw and catch player with some loud power, he’s got a special skill set that has gone unnoticed in a loaded prep catching class. His arm is his best quality, he had sub 1.90 pop times at the PG National Showcase and impressed.
Chris McMahon is a Righty from ‘The U’ – his stuff sits in the 94-97 range, he has a low effort arm and has thrown well in ACC play. His secondary pitches aren’t flashy and project him as a long-term reliever with heavy upside.
Jordan Westburg is a utility guy from Mississippi State. His position is unclear because of a loaded Mississippi State lineup that includes (also Ranked) Justin Foscue, who’s also a utility guy. Westburg is an old school hitter who laces balls everywhere and has a high average and low slugging. He has some swing and miss concerns – especially for a shortstop with zero game power.
