Somerset 2 New Hampshire 1

Starter Kyle Johnston had another fine start, tossing five scoreless innings, but a 2-run rally in the last of the 8th gave Somerset a W.

Singles by Otto Lopez and Austin Martin, followed by an RBI sac fly by Gabriel Moreno cut the Somerset lead in half in the top of the 9th, but the rally fell short. Martin had 3 hits on the night, while Lopez had 2, and extended his hit streak to 16 games.

Over the first five games of their season-opening series, Tampa out scored the D-Jays 77-43.

What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

Starter Naswell Paulino pitched 5.1 scoreless innings before turning things over to the bullpen, but Thomas Ruwe and Gabriel Ponce were unable to hold a 2-1 lead, allowing a pair of Tampa runs in the 8th.

Zac Cook, a free agent signed after last year’s truncated draft, made his pro debut, and went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored in the leadoff spot.
