Bunch of Stuff: Minor League Staffs, Spring Training NRIs

It was a busy day for the media staff of the Blue Jays four full season affiliates yesterday:

As well, Hunter Mense was promoted to assistant hitting coach with the Blue Jays. Mense had served the past three seasons as the organizations minor league hitting coordinator. Luis Hurtado has also reached the bigs. Hurtado, who joined the organization in 2006, spent a half dozen years as a player before becoming part of the minor league coaching staff. Luis served as Dunedin’s Manager last year, and will be a bullpen catcher with the big club. Both have been generous with their time to this blog, and we wish them well.

Allgeyer spent about six weeks on the 40 man last season before being DFA’d. He made only one MLB appearance. Bec filled in for Gabriel Moreno at New Hampshire last summer after Gaby fractured his thumb and played fairly well on both sides of the ball. Hernandez might be the safest bet from this group to reach the bigs at some point this season. He rode an improved fastball and a wipeout change to pitch at three levels last year. Stadler was converted to a full time relief role in 2022, and has bumped his velo up to the 95-97 range. The 6’9” Stadler struck out 52 hitters in 35 AA innings last year before a promotion to Buffalo.

Old friend alerts: Conner Greene has signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training with the Orioles. In spring training 2016, while we were chatting with Anthony Alford, Greene strolled by, singing a song (can’t remember what it was) in a perfect falsetto. OF Forrest Wall, who seemed on the cusp of a 4th OF job while with Buffalo, signed with the Mariners as a minor league free agent.
